Trip to a local town

Yesterday we had a pretty amazing day. First we went to a local village about 30 minutes from our hotel. We were dropped off on a street corner and we were met by local people selling fresh pigs feet and meat. The meat was hanging by a string and every once in a while the lady selling it would give it a good smack to chase the flies away. Rice lined the walkway of the village on either side, and the people of the town were busy scooping it up and putting it in big bags. Some rice was covered by tarps so the rain would not ruin it. The rice was not white rice yet. This rice had to be peeled by a machine before it would be ready for eating.
The people of the town were as curious about us as we were of them. Most of the doors were wide open and there were only 2 housed that had air conditioner. The kids were running up and down the street and were stopping to chat with us and touch the babies. These kids were no older than 7 maybe. At the end of this street, there were rice paddies and a cemetery off to the left. Evelyn said these people that lived in this town were a family group and they all had the same sur name. The cemetery was for that family as well. It was an amazing experience to say the least. The kids were adorable and the people of the town were very very nice to us. On our way back we stopped at a store and got the kids coloring books and candy. They all piled into the store with us and we were almost run over trying to get out! Here are some pics from todays adventures! Enjoy! I know we did. And I am very thankful for my vacuum and dishwasher…. For everything that I have really. We are truly blessed beyond measure.

Hey Catherine, I just got a chance to sit and view the pics you took of the village and your trip to the orphanage. Wow, I guess it does make you very thankful for waht you have, we take so much for granted here in the US. I got that little part in there where you said you might be filling out some papers for another one, that would be great. Kiss Norah for us, we love you all and hope you have a great day. Love Nana and Sugar Tootz!
